Possibilities and limitations

Should you have reason to doubt whether you are strong or healthy enough to undergo surgery please consult the general practitioner of your choice. In most cases all surgical procedures can be performed on any healthy patient 16 years or older without any restrictions.

Treatment options include: single tooth restorations, replacement of several missing teeth, or exchange of full dentures with implant supported fixed bridgework Implants can also be used for purely aesthetical purposes and replace crooked teeth. The implant has the feel of a natural tooth because it is completely attached to the bone.

Unfortunately many patients who ask their doctors for dental implants are told that they don’t have enough bone to support them. Don’t be disheartened. Even if this would indeed have been the case in the past, today a wider variety of treatment options including a range of augmentation procedures opens up new possibilities in even the most “hopeless” cases. The augmentation process enhances bone quantity and/or quality to the level necessary to guarantee the longterm stability of the implant. There is no need to harvest bone from another area of the patient’s body for this procedure. Bone substitutes are not only available but much better suited for this purpose: They have been used in millions of patients worldwide with great success.

There are only few medical conditions which may not allow implant treatment. If there is any doubt whether you can have implants, consult your medical doctors. They will determine if implant dentistry is a good solution for you.

But 20 years of experience have clearly shown that a very high percentage of cases can be solved, even if the patient is medically compromised.
